Finished with jury duty!

Multiply this by 12 and you'll get some sense of our collective relief.

Am I the only person who actually LIKES jury duty? Long lunches in Chinatown, a chance to catch up on magazine reading...

The time I had to put someone in jail was a bummer, but canoles in Little Italy took the sting out of it.

We put FOUR people in jail!

I’ll say this about jury duty: (1) I learned a lot more about the law and the court system than I ever would have otherwise, and (2) I have to sheepishly admit that I was very impressed with the quality of my fellow jurors. I mean, I expected complete chaos but these people were attentive, engaged, showed up early every day, and took their roles very seriously. My God, they probably even pay their bills early! Also, it sounds cheesy, but it is an awe-inspiring experience and does – sniff – make you proud to be an American! Of course, I could have skipped the lesson in patriotism when it came time to read the guilty verdicts in court – face-to-face with the defendants.
