For addicts of sites like The Sartorialist, a new book provides a bit of New York fashion history. “On the Street, 1980-1990,” collects some of Amy Arbus’s portraits of people on the street in downtown Manhattan in the 1980s.

I can't wait for the Amy Arbus book to arrive from Amazon -- though having lived in NY in the early 80s, I can't tell how much of my fascination what that era is truly related to East Village art, and how much is mere nostalgia.

Oddly enough, I think I’m more interested in seeing the pre-gentrification streetscapes of Manhattan than the fashions of that era (although I understand that 1980s fashion is all the rage now, God help us).
